FEED SYSTEMS

Go to Page 2 IN THE NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS industry, there is often a need to include a variety of tablets and capsules in a single package. This is easily accomplished with a multi-product feed system. Two such systems are described here; one for moderate production output, and one for high production speeds. MODERATE PRODUCTION SYSTEM. This multi-hopper, single-disc system is shown installed on a Wrapade two-row tablet/capsule packaging machine. As many as six different products can be fed into each of two rows of packages. The products are stored in multiple vibratory hoppers, from which they are fed into individual grooves in the feed disc, one groove for each different product. Each groove feeds two tracks, and the tracks guide the products to the two packages being formed in the sealing head. ( For a larger view Click here) The number of products dropped from the tracks into each package is controlled by a pin-type escapement. If required, it is possible to drop two or three products from some tracks while dropping only one from each of the remaining tracks. This type of feed system works best when all the tablets/capsules are reasonably similar in size and type. It is very well suited to our basic two-row packaging machine for moderate production output in the range of 140-160 packages per minute.

( For a larger view Click here) Due to the configuration, the product hoppers usually have a volume of approximately one-half cubic foot each. At typical machine speeds, this provides approximately fifteen to twenty minutes running time. A round window in the front of each hopper shows the product level. Each hopper has a hinged lid on top, which prevents product from accidentally falling into the adjacent hopper during refills. HIGH PRODUCTION SYSTEM. When production output in the range of 320-400 packages per minute is required, a four-row packaging machine fed by an overhead product conveyor is recommended. In this system, products are dropped into conveyor buckets as the buckets travel beneath the feeder assemblies. Go to Page 2
